An anomaly scan, also known as a fetal anomaly ultrasound, is a detailed ultrasound scan typically performed between 18 and 23 weeks of pregnancy. Its primary purpose is to assess the structural development of the fetus and to detect any potential abnormalities or birth defects.

During the anomaly scan, the sonographer will examine various aspects of the fetus, including the head, brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, kidneys, limbs, and umbilical cord. They will also check the amount of amniotic fluid around the baby and the placenta's position.

The scan helps to identify any issues early in the pregnancy, allowing for further evaluation, management, and planning of care if necessary. It's important to note that while the anomaly scan can detect many abnormalities, it cannot guarantee the absence of all birth defects or genetic conditions.

You might opt for a 3D-4D scan for realistic images of your baby’s face
